Canadian R&B music star The Weeknd has put down a staggering $US70 million ($98 million) for an extravagant Los Angeles mansion.

The Can’t Feel My Face singer, Abel Tesfaye, bought the 3065-square-metre Bel Air property quietly off-market in one of the biggest sales of 2021 in California, Dirt.com reports.

It is quite an upgrade for the 31-year-old after he sold his home in Hidden Hills to Madonna back in April for $US19.3 million ($27 million).

He bought it from a Dutch celebrity couple who spent three years renovating the home and adding 1200-square-metres plus a long list of flashy features but never listed the home publicly online.

And they have spared no expense in their renovation, with the formal living room adorned with glossy orange walls and a floor-to-ceiling black marble fireplace, while the formal dining room has coffered ceilings and bronze wallpaper.

Almost every room has grand floor-to-ceiling doors that open to picturesque golf course views.

The gourmet kitchen is also a sight with high-end appliances, two waterfall-edge marble islands and copper-faced drawers with handles custom-made from leather belts.

Beyond these living areas, The Weeknd has any number of other rooms to choose from that provide different experiences without leaving his home from a Turkish-inspired hammam, a movie theatre, a gym and Mr Tesfaye’s very own personal music studio at home.

Outside, there are the landscaped grounds of a botanic garden and an infinity-edge pool with a waterfall. That’s in addition to the indoor pool, of course.
