Canberra’s housing market has pulled itself out of the doldrums with several strong results this week.
One of the standouts was the mid-week sale of the mid-century residence at 24 Araba Place, Aranda, which sold under the hammer for $2.26 million through Belle Property Canberra’s Bree Currall.
The iconic home is a creation of Ernest Munns and was built in 1969 with the architectural gem’s rich history amassed by Max Dupain’s lens.
The imposing structure is perched among treetops on steel stilts and features a panorama of lush bushland from every corner, courtesy of floor-to-ceiling windows and a prized northern exposure.
Beyond its architectural significance, the residence offers a practical layout featuring five bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a renovated kitchen adorned with premium appliances, double ovens, stone countertops, and bespoke cabinetry. Outdoors is an expansive rear courtyard and in-ground pool, all set on a 1590-square-metre block.
The home is near Canberra’s most sought-after amenities, including popular local spots like Two Before Ten and Ten Yards, nature trails, and has easy access to leading educational institutions and major city hubs.
The property had been quoted at a price of about $2 million.
Concerns around building costs and available contractors have also waned with renovators back in the market.
Also mid-week, the original four-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 13 Sculptor Street, Giralang, was sold for $1.065 million on behalf of the Public Trustees.
Belle Property Canberra’s selling agent, Peta Barrett, said the property attracted four registered bidders on Thursday, with the home selling to a young family looking to renovate.
Set on an expansive 1304-square-metre block, the property is in a prized location and had been advertised as a clean slate but in well-kept original condition.
Barrett said, “it’s a great property with views to the Brindabellas and a huge rear yard backing onto a reserve.”
On Saturday, MARQ Property’s Sam Taylor had three interested buyers for the well-presented four-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 3 Mullagh Place, Holt.
Taylor said all the buyers were conditional, so the property was passed in and is currently being negotiated with an asking price of $900,000 plus.
“We expect the property to be sold in the next day, and if not, before Christmas,” he said.
Nestled in a peaceful cul-de-sac, the property is in an ideal location just moments from the Burns Golf Course, Shepherds Lookout and Kippax Fair Shopping Centre.
