It’s been another mixed weekend for Canberra’s auction market, but there were standout results, with a luxury home in Nicholls setting a benchmark.
The stunning six-bedroom residence at 17 Sutcliffe Street attracted five registered bidders on Saturday before selling for $2.25 million.
MARQ Property’s Luke McAuliffe said the property received an opening bid of $1.3 million before it sold for about $200,000 above its reserve.
“The property was sold to a family with teenagers seeking a quality home with plenty of space,” he said.
On an elevated 923-square-metre block, the impressive property features formal and informal living spaces, three bathrooms, a heated in-ground pool and sweeping views to the Brindabellas, Black Mountain and the Belconnen Town Centre.
Elsewhere on Saturday, the updated four-bedroom house at 26 Johnstone Circuit, Calwell, failed to sell and is now on the market for offers over $999,000.
Michael Martin of Luton Properties Tuggeranong said potential buyers expressed interest throughout the campaign but did not bid on the day.
Set on a 718-square-metre block, the modern house features a spacious floor plan and prized views of Brindebella Mountain.
Jonny Warren Properties’ Jonny Warren said both their properties passed in this weekend but expected sales within the next few days.
The striking house at 5 Mackay Crescent, Kambah, drew two registered bidders on Saturday. It was passed in at $1.165 million, with a later offer of $1,172,500.
Warren said it is a beautifully presented four-bedroom residence on a landscaped 1034-square-metre block offering breathtaking views and direct access to Mount Taylor’s walking trails.
The three-bedroom townhouse at 46/12 Challis Street, Dickson, was passed in and is now on the market with a guide of $850,000.
Mixed results were recorded during the week. On Wednesday, Ray White’s Kate Coultas sold the three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence at 1 Hynes Place, Chisholm, for $853,000. Ray White sold the 6/19 Howitt Street, Kingston, for an undisclosed price, while the three-bedroom property at 19 Whitfeld Street, Monash, is for sale for more than $800,000.
Elsewhere, the luxury apartment at 47/9 Eastlake Parade, Kingston, was sold prior to auction through Belle Property. The four-bedroom house at 7 Gibson Street, Macgregor, was passed and is for sale through Bastion Property Group’s Theo Koutsikamanis for $689,000 plus.
Clearance rates remained stable at 54 per cent, which is higher than the same period last year, when they dipped to 51 per cent.
