New developments are constantly springing up around Canberra, from boutique townhouses to whopping multi-units with hundreds of dwellings.

If you’re in the market for something new and the location is important or if you’re just curious as to what is coming to your area, here are some of the most hotly anticipated developments in your region.

Belconnen

High Society

High Society, Geocon

The High Society precinct by Geocon was approved by the ACT government last year and, to date, it’s the largest mixed-use site to receive approval in Canberra’s history. There will be 541 apartments across three buildings on the 1.6-hectare site. The $300 million development will also be home to Canberra’s tallest building, standing at 113 metres tall. It has an expected completion date of 2021.

Gungahlin

Gungahlin is the fastest growing region in the ACT due to a flurry of new developments. This 14-storey development is set to be completed by the middle of 2020. Centrally located in Gungahlin, there will be 167 apartments and a highlight is the 20-metre resort style pool.

Inner South

Sapphire

Sapphire, Kingston

The 79-unit development is set to take the last prime waterfront position on the Kingston Foreshore. Prices for units still available at the development start from $1.149 million, and last year a penthouse sold for $3.34 million.  Features at the development include a concierge and 10,000 square metres of landscaped gardens.

Inner North

The Barracks

After being in a state of limbo for 10 years, last year Canberra’s Section 100 site – sitting between London Circuit and Vernon Circle – secured a new buyer. Morris Property Group purchased the 2.6-hectare site for $85 million and announced plans for more than 1000 residential apartments in the precinct called The Barracks. The first stage of the development, One City Hill, is currently on the market and it features 313 residential apartments.

Molonglo Valley

Aberconway Rise

As most dwellings in Molonglo Valley have yet to be built, Aberconway Rise stands out for its unique glasshouse design. The collection of one, two and three-bedroom townhouses are designed by renowned architecture firm COX.

Tuggeranong

Istra

Istra: Ellison Harvie Close, Greenway

Among all the new development currently taking place in Canberra, there is a shortage of three-bedroom townhouses. Istra in Greenway was designed to fill this void, with 44 three-bedroom townhouses on offer in a prime waterfront position in the suburb. Completion is expected early 2020.

Weston Creek

Oakey Heights

Oakey Heights, Weston

Weston Creek is the region with the least new development occurring, with nearby Molonglo Valley taking all the glory. However, there is one project taking place. Oakey Heights is a boutique project with 15 townhouses in Weston. The two-bedroom townhouses are due to be completed at the end of the year.

Woden Valley

A&A

Since closing in 2010, the Alexander and Albemarle buildings have been widely regarded as an eyesore. The buildings became a favourite hangout for vandals and curious teenagers. But last year Doma Group released plans to renew the site, announcing they would transform the buildings into 186 warehouse-style apartments.
