If you have been following local property news recently, you would know that Woden is clearly one of the hottest markets for brand new developments right now. It seems a redevelopment of the area has sparked considerable investment, making the future of the Woden region a bright one.
One property developer significantly invested in the growth of the area is Zapari. Off the back of the success of their Grand Central Towers project, the group recently announced the release of a new $170 million mixed-use development on the corner of Melrose Drive, Brewer Street and Corinna Street, known as The Shard.
Comprising 273 apartments with sizes ranging from one to five bedrooms, The Shard is set to be one of the most luxurious developments in Woden.
“My vision was to bring vibrancy, activity, colour and some much-needed ‘bustle’ to the worn-out area,” says CEO Nick Skepev of Zapari.
“For that, I knew we needed people to want to call Woden home. Moreover, the opportunity to enhance the lifestyle in the town centre would serve to relieve pressures in surrounding suburbs, and arguably, other town centres and the CBD.”
Designed by Cox Architecture, The Shard is a building far from the status quo. The Corinna Street side has a strong human scale with retail frontage designed for pedestrian shopping. The Melrose Drive side inspired the name with five elegant and tall glass elements to create a jagged edge facade reminiscent of shards of glass.
The apartments themselves are spacious and functional, with flexible layouts designed for owner-occupiers. Features include two-and-a-half-metre-high ceilings, double glazing, protruded timber feature walls, ducted heating and cooling, Smeg appliances in the kitchen, full-height marble tiling in the bathroom, rain showers and extra storage, to name just a few.
Amenity in the building mirrors that of a five-star hotel, flowing across the floors and into shared spaces. It includes a piano room, executive business lounge, wine cellar dining room, gym, yoga and Pilates room, a wellness studio that includes a cold plunge pool and sauna, as well as rooftop access to gardens, outdoor lounges and a spa.
The top two floors consist of nine immaculate penthouses known as The Glasshouse Collection. Of the nine, six are double-storey with incredible spiral staircases and private elevator access. The largest of which is a five-bedroom, four-bathroom home across 314 square metres of living space.
“The Shard’s location directly across from Westfield Woden makes it extremely appealing; it passes the ‘shopping trolley’ test,” says Skepev.
“It will offer residents access to the commercial tenants on the ground floor of the building, as well as all of the food and beverage and retail options of Westfield Woden.”
Completion is due in 2024.
