Aside from regularly visiting friends, one of my most recent trips to Googong involved packing my almost two-year-old daughter and Nonna in the car and venturing to the township’s beloved Halloween festival, Boogong.
And let me tell you, when we arrived, unlike my daughter who squealed with delight, I was speechless.
I already have an appreciation for this community-minded area, but experiencing it at this level felt a little different – a special event.
Thousands of spectators were making their way down to the packed-out oval filled with food trucks, picnics, a stage, roaming performers on stilts and endless activities for the kids.
As we made our way down, I can’t tell you how many locals greeted hello from their front driveways and offered Halloween treats from their spookily adorned homes.
Despite their best efforts to come across as scary monsters, ghouls and ghosts, their friendly smiles and enthusiastic waves indicated otherwise.
This is the kind of neighbourhood I’d like to live in. It’s no wonder there’s a growing number of homes that span Googong’s hillsides, with even more land being prepared for sale as we speak.
In Googong’s west, that land is about to hit the market with a release of Wellsvale 3, offering a number of large lots and elevated land with views towards the Molonglo Ranges.
“Wellsvale 3 will be a place that welcomes you warmly with its feeling of space, convenience, and community,” says Googong project director Malcolm Leslie.
“This release backs the Nangi Pimble nature reserve and has the potential to pick up some incredible views.”
While the release has blocks as big as 1093 square metres, sizes begin from 337 square metres and average around the 509-square-metre mark, meaning there’s something for every type of buyer.
“This release has sizes for every type of buyer,” Leslie says. “The smaller blocks are perfect for first home buyers, while larger lots are ideal for larger families or those looking to build a dream home.”
Wellsvale 3 is close to Googong Common – a green open space that meanders through the town and links a series of walking trails, ovals, parks and playgrounds.
Googong Common will eventually also include a sports precinct – with an indoor pool and sports centre, a tennis centre – as well as the Googong West Village Centre.
“These local shops will add to the shopping facilities already available at Googong North Village Centre and the future Googong Town Centre,” Leslie says.
“Googonians are seeing a growth in facilities, schools and services, in line with the growing population.
“Currently, 6500 people live here, and the town will eventually be home to around 18,000 people.”
Googong’s first public school officially opened at this week’s start of the school year, adding an option to the renowned Anglican School Googong.
“The community mindedness at Googong makes it such an incredible place to live,” Leslie says.
“Residents are known to be generous, helping each other out with babysitting, lawn mowing, and even paying for someone’s groceries at the local IGA if they’ve left their wallet behind, for example.
“[And] we have great community events throughout the year.”
Wellsvale 3 is now open for registrations of interest, which close on Monday, February 20.

From the agent: “While Googong is a suburban township, it’s also really lovely and quiet, so you feel like you’re in more of a rural town, which is pleasant.”
