The moment your gaze falls upon the breathtaking home at 2974 Yass River Road in Yass River, a sense of tranquillity envelops you.
It could be the expanse of verdant hills that stretch as far as the eye can see or the impeccably crafted architectural design that fulfils every criterion on your checklist. Either way, this property exudes an aura of serenity and captivates your senses.
The three-bedroom main residence, which sits on more than 80 hectares, is as enchanting as the natural farmland that surrounds it.
Owners Deb and Dave have called this property “home, sweet home” for the past eight years and have made the difficult decision to part with the residence to be closer to family by the coast.
“We saw the opportunity to run a small farm and decided to do that,” Deb says.
“We built the house three years ago and were living in Canberra while it was being built … We’ve loved living here and loved being on a farm but it’s time for us to downsize.”
To build the main residence, the couple enlisted the help of architect Adam Hobill who designed an eco-friendly and sustainable build.
“We wanted a home that was built with recycled and organic materials and Adam Hobill was able to take our vision and designed something that fitted the land rather than an ordinary suburban home,” says Deb.
The interiors are light and bright, complemented by high ceilings, and an open-plan living and dining area with a glass fireplace that spills out to the deck.
The kitchen, which looks out to the backyard, boasts Caesarstone benches, a walk-in pantry and integrated appliances, and an island bench that’ll easily cater for the grazing spread of your dreams.
On the west wing of the home is the main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and en suite with a standalone bathtub. The balance of bedrooms in the main residence enjoy their own quarters on the east, each with built-in robes and a shared bath.
Not far from the residence is a separate farm-stay cottage that has a wraparound verandah, fireplace and entertaining space.
The farm itself is watered by seven dams and water reservoirs. Also included are cattle yards, a chook pen, two machinery sheds and nine completely fenced sheds.
“We’ve had goats, alpacas, cows and the adventures of a lifetime here,” Deb says.
Of course, relocating to Yass River comes with its perks.
“We were on the property during COVID and it was just nice being in isolation, being able to go for long walks and still be on the property and have nobody nearby,” Deb adds.
“It’s peaceful and quiet yet close enough to the city … It was a lovely home and it served us well.”
