When you think of a rainforest retreat, you might imagine a home located somewhere in Far North Queensland or northern NSW.
Luckily for Canberrans, however, 589 Woodhill Mountain Road offers just that, only two and a half hours from the territory.
Just six minutes from Berry and perched high above the surrounding landscape, the property offers views that stretch as far as Jervis Bay’s coastline.
Closer to home, waterfalls, wildlife and nature trails sit right below the doorstep, ready to be explored, and the leafy but low-maintenance gardens provide an oasis from which to soak it all in.
The two large decks and a private balcony off the main bedroom contribute yet another place to enjoy the serenity and views of the region.
An introvert’s dream, there are no immediate neighbours to the property and much of the surrounding landscape is unused and accessible.
Selling agent Mira Edwards of Raine & Horne Berry says the picturesque surroundings are the main drawcard for the home.
“It’s going to appeal to people who like nature or rainforests, or something a little bit different – they’re not after just a farm, which this is not,” Edwards said. “Right below [the house] are beautiful ferns and rainforest and a little walk down to the creek that’s on the property, and a little bridge.”
Inside the house, natural features include the craftsman-built stone fireplace. and exposed wooden archways. Large windows draw the outside in, while well-maintained timber floors and handrails seal the deal.
“It’s all real natural stone in the fireplace and walls. The feel is almost like that of a chalet because it’s up so high,” Edwards says.
The current owners built the home just over a decade ago and are the only family to have lived in it. It’s clear they took the little luxuries into account when building and had the foresight to create a timeless design.
The marble kitchen is modern and has a well-planned layout, while also featuring a large walk-in pantry and integrated Miele and Liebherr appliances. The bathrooms carry a similar luxurious vibe.
Edwards describes the property as sophisticated and is eager to find a buyer to match.
“It really does suit someone who wants to enjoy the bushwalks and nature, but also wants to entertain extended family when they come to visit,” she said.
“It’s for someone who wants the convenience, the view, and a feeling of being in the middle of nowhere while still being so close to Berry.”
