Another week, another record: Googong home sets first $2m sale in the suburb

May 28, 2021
The latest sale was the suburb's first ever $2 million sale.

A four-bedroom property in Googong sold via private negotiations this week for $2 million, setting a new record for the suburb and surpassing the previous benchmark by $300,000.

It was also the first $2 million sale in the suburb.

Selling agent Ryan Broadhurst of Belle Property Queanbeyan said the house at 147 Mount Pleasant Drive sold to a local Canberra family in search of more space.

The property is set on 4.45 hectares of land and features large living and outdoor areas. It also has a workshop at the rear, with a self-contained unit.

“This was a quality house, with high-end features and finishings, and that was the ultimate drawcard for the eventual buyers,” Mr Broadhurst said.

“We sold this one off-market because we already had a pool of buyers who were in search of a home of this scale.”

Two buyers had walked through the property and had put in competitive offers, Mr Broadhurst said.

The sellers, who also built the home, decided to part with the property in a bid to undertake a new project.

When asked if he thought Googong’s record would be broken any time soon, Mr Broadhurst said he wouldn’t be surprised if that happened sooner rather than later.

“There are some pretty great homes that are being built and have already been built that have views from Mount Pleasant and Mount Campbell that I think are worth more than $2 million,” he said.

“And people that have a $2 million budget [are] looking around this area. That price can get you a beautiful home with a lot of land, and we’re finding a lot of growing families are wanting that.”

Allhomes records show Googong’s previous record was set in 2017 by 117 Binowee Drive, which sold for $1.7 million.
