Canberra is the most expensive city in which to rent a house but the market is shifting as rental properties become more available, offering prospective tenants more options when property hunting.

According to the latest Domain Rent Report, Canberra’s median rent was $690 a week, a record figure that remained unchanged over the quarter and year.

For those looking for their next rental property, there are some hidden gems to be found when searching for a cost-effective place to call home.
