MacGregor was named after the former governor of Queensland, Sir William MacGregor.

Hugging the north-west bounds of Canberra is MacGregor, a quiet and leafy suburb popular with young families.

It gets its name from the former governor of Queensland, Sir William MacGregor, while the streets are named after members of Australian medical professions, a nod to Sir William’s medical background.

On one side, “Old MacGregor” is home to long-established properties on big blocks, while “New MacGregor” has up-to-date homes popping up on smaller blocks.

Smack bang in the middle of the suburb is Kingswim where kids as young as 12 weeks can learn to swim and build up their confidence in the water, or the adults can get their heart rate up with an Aquacise class.

Ginninderra Creek runs through the middle of the suburb, and a vast network of walking tracks follow it.

The paths are separate from the road, making them great for a walk with the family. Follow the path up an easy trek through Goodwin Hill to enjoy expansive views.
