The triangular suburb of Turner may be tucked on the north-western corner of Canberra city, but take a wander inside and you’ll feel like you’re firmly in the suburbs.
Living here means enjoying all the spoils of Braddon, the city and the light rail, right on your doorstep, while also lapping up the suburb’s ample parks, tree-lined streets and wide nature strips.
The south and east of the suburb are predominantly made up of apartment buildings and townhouses, with plenty of development in recent years, while to the west you’ll find in-demand homes on well-sized blocks.
Hungry? Meet friends for casual pub fare at The RUC, or for a bit of European flavour, try the Australian Croatian Club.
You’re also spoilt for choice right on the suburb’s bounds in every direction. Just over the road on the northern boundary, The Duxton is a suburban favourite for a bistro meal or relaxed drink.
To the east, cocktails and sophisticated small bites at the vibrant Midnight Hotel Bar are just across Northbourne Avenue.
Or to the south, settle in for the set menu at Temporada.
As the sun goes down, take off your shoes and hit the green at The RUC for a game of barefoot bowls with the family.
Or get moving with a hit of tennis at Turner Tennis Club, one of Canberra’s original clubs, which opened in the early 1950s. Parlez vous Francais? If not, Alliance Francaise de Canberra is the place to learn. It’s also home to an annual French film festival.
