Exploring Phillip: A bustling precinct that’s bursting with life

As the bridge between Tuggeranong and South Canberra, Phillip has long been a favourite among Canberra residents.

Over the past few years, the area has really reinvented itself, transforming from a corporate hub and establishing a reputation as one of the most exciting dining destinations in Canberra’s south.

With the arrival of several new developments – and more scheduled for the near future – it’s a bustling precinct that’s bursting with life.

The area serves not only local residents but those from surrounding suburbs in Woden Valley, as well as attracting visitors from Tuggeranong, Weston and the Inner South who are drawn to the recreational activities, entertainment, shopping, and food on offer.

Eat & drink

Dining options are where Phillip really shines. It seems like hardly a month goes by where there isn’t an announcement or rumour of an exciting new venue opening.

On the northern side of Phillip, you’ll find Space Kitchen, a playground for foodies that’s well known for its decadent breakfasts.

Further down Furzer Street lies The Alby, a new addition that’s quickly becoming a favourite among locals thanks to its cocktails and bar food. Bradley Street’s venues, especially Fenway Public House, also appeal.

See & do

Once you’ve quenched your thirst and filled your belly at The Alby, head downstairs for duckpin bowling, pinball and pool tables, as well as 55-inch televisions for catching live sport.

To sample some of the southside’s finest, make for the Southside Farmers Markets on a Sunday morning. With fresh produce, coffee and a selection of international treats, it’s an experience not to be missed.

Eddison Park, just across the road, is the perfect spot for a picnic or a romp in the playground.

For year-round leisure, visit Phillip Swimming and Ice Skating Centre for a dip in the pool, a lap of the ice, or to cheer on the national ice hockey team CBR Brave.

Westfield Woden has a large number of retailers across fashion, homewares, entertainment and more. You can also catch a movie at Hoyts and make the most of their comfy reclining chairs.
