Giralang home designed by internationally renowned architect could be yours to rent

A home designed by one of Australia’s most globally celebrated architects in Giralang is available for rent for the first time.

The two-bedroom home at 6 Womba Place, Giralang – known as Redmond House – was designed by award-winning architect Glenn Murcutt in collaboration with Clare Redmond in 1977. 

Glenn Murcutt received the Gold Medal of the Australian Institute of Architects in 1992, the highly-coveted Pritzker Prize in 2002 – considered the Nobel Prize for architecture – and the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects in 2009. 

Redmond House embodies everything Murcutt was known for in his designs, including sensitivity and connectivity to the natural landscape, clean lines and perfect orientation to maximise natural light. 

Hannah Gill of The Property Collective said the home “comes with a feeling” that more modern homes lack.

“What I love about the home is just how unique it is in terms of consideration about design and the use of space and light,” she said. 

“When you walk in, it’s very Zen and extremely chilled. It just has a real feeling about it the moment you step through the door.

“That is increasingly difficult to find with more modern homes, I think. It feels just incredibly peaceful.” 

Despite being on the smaller side, the home utilises spacious living areas, with comforting quality features, including oversized pivot doors, new carpet, floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights, solar panels and high ceilings.

The home is made even more tranquil due to its location in the suburb of Giralang, Gill added.

“It’s located on a battleaxe block so it’s nice and private from the street, but backs onto a pathway to the reserve, and the garden is really large and established,” she said. 

“There’s also a side courtyard, which feels like you’re in a Mexican health retreat and, like the garden, is extremely low maintenance and has a real funky vibe to it.

“It’s a cracking spot, it’s up near the reserve side of Giralang and there are lots of amenities nearby, too, not just in Giralang but in the neighbouring suburbs.” 

Due to its spacious design, Gill said the home is likely to appeal to couples, or a parent needing room for their child. 

“I think there are a lot of factors that make it appealing … it’s really versatile, I think,” she said.
