Growing up, Jerrabomberra was one of my favourite places to visit. At the time my cousins lived there, so we’d venture out often.
We would ride our bikes down to the local shops to grab an ice cream or some fish and chips. We’d head to the pond to feed the ducks or count how many new ducklings appeared in the spring. If it were a nice afternoon, we might have ventured around the lake for a walk with our mums.
These days I still have family that live in Jerra and while the area has grown a lot bigger, that community essence I so fondly remember is still there. Sure, there are some fancy new shops, big supermarkets and takeaway chains that would have been so handy in my early twenties when dropping friends home after nights out in Civic.
But I still see kids riding through the streets, friends kicking soccer balls with their dogs at the oval, families walking the lake on a sunny afternoon. The addition of Tralee (South Jerrabomberra) has made the area even more appealing than ever before and a suburb certainly worth a look into for anyone looking to sink their roots in.
“I’ve been selling house and land packages on Canberra’s northside for years, but there hasn’t been much opportunity for those who want to remain on the south, until now,” says agent Daniel Aird of Aird Property Group.
Coming to market are just eight blocks in Tralee (South Jerrabomberra) ranging in size from 372 square metres to 511 square metres. They will be auctioned in April this year.
“The area is geographical gold – a nice, neat pocket away from everyone but just 20 minutes from the Canberra City Centre, 15 minutes from Woden, eight minutes from Queanbeyan and even closer to Fyshwick and Hume.
“It’s a picturesque location surrounded by beautiful green grassy hills and nature trails.
“Developed by the Village Building Company, a lot of effort has gone into making sure there is better infrastructure, better parks. There are also only 1500 blocks in total planned for South Jerrabomberra, so it’s small, quiet and exclusive,” says Aird.
“We even have options for blocks that can be bought together, if you have two families who want to stay close to each other.”
The brand new amenities planned for this highly sought after, up and coming area, with schools, shops and a recreation and leisure centre.
“There are also plans for a community town park with kids play equipment, splash park, learn to ride, outdoor gym, public art and barbecue facilities,” says Aird.
“The Town Centre will be home to a community complex with a number of restaurants and outdoor dining as well as a new regional sports facility, with 23 hectares of playing fields, aquatic centre and an indoor seated stadium.”
Of the eight blocks going to auction, one will be released ready to build mid-year, with the other seven to be released towards the end of 2022.
