Like a world of its own: The boutique complex coming to Denman Prospect

Expected completion of Hakea is early 2024.

It was while pondering the native-inspired colour schemes that the name Hakea was chosen for this boutique development of eight townhouses.

The Australian evergreen plant blooms with the most striking flowers, and comparisons can be drawn to these townhouses.

They are being developed and built by Elevated Living and designed by Mather Architecture to reflect the surrounding landscape of Denman North – a suburb connected to Denman Prospect via Holborow Avenue

If you’ve had the opportunity to venture that way, you’ll understand how synonymous the area is with nature. Its walking tracks weave through the nearby reserves and it has elevated vistas of the Molonglo Valley’s bushland towards Black Mountain.

It feels like a world of its own, except you’re only around 12 minutes from the city. This particular site is also around a one-minute walk from the Denman shops and the new parks and playgrounds planned for the area.

“Hakea is an opportunity to gain access to Denman with an incredible home, without having to pay the price of a full-sized house,” says agent Samuel Fitzsimmons of Ray White Canberra.

“Blocks of land are selling for around $2000 per square metre, so once you add up the cost of the land and the build, you’re looking at spending around $2 million.

“Hakea gets you into the area with a large home at a much more accessible price point. You don’t have the maintenance required with things like landscaping, but you still have a home that’s big enough to house all your belongings and your furniture.”

The townhouses boast flexible floor plans that range from 125 to 197 square metres of living, not including the garage.

“Townhouse type two is three bedrooms, but with an added living area upstairs, you have the option of transforming it into a four-bedroom home,” Fitzsimmons says.

“Similarly, townhouse type three is three bedrooms but you can easily convert it to two bedrooms and a second living area.”

Townhouse type two also has an atrium lightwell in its core, allowing light to filter through the entire home.

In the largest townhouse, there is a studio above the garage. With its own access, it can be rented out as a secondary income, used as a home office or transformed into a business space.

The interiors were designed by Cude, and residents are offered the choice of two earthy, organic colour palette options titled Euroka and Indeko.

Both contain vast amounts of timber features, terrazzo and chic tiling in colours like terracotta, sage green and Prussian blue.

While the developer, Elevated Living, is renowned for its ultra-modern works – such as the Kingston Causeway – this build is a touch more minimalist with strong ties to nature in its look and feel.

“Elevated Living is specific in ensuring what you see is what you get,” Fitzsimmons says.

“With other developments, more often than not the final build won’t end up looking like the renders. But as both the developers and builders, Elevated Living have been very careful to ensure their chosen appliances and finishes are going to be replicated in the finished product.”

Expected completion is early 2024.
