A five-bedroom house in Monash set a suburb record when it sold under the hammer on Sunday for $1.08 million.
The residence at 1 Hutcheson Street beat the previous record by $30,000.
Selling agent James Carter, of Carter & Co Agents, wasn’t surprised by the sale, noting the interest garnered throughout the auction campaign had led him to believe it would surpass $1 million.
“There’s been unabated demand for quality family homes such as this, so we were quietly confident that it would’ll set the new record,” Mr Carter said.
“This was a recently updated home that attracted close to 100 groups throughout the selling campaign and also had a lot of pre-auction offers.
“We could’ve accepted any of the pre-auction offers but, because of the level of demand for it, we knew it’d sell under auction conditions.”
Bidding for the home kicked off at $900,000 and quickly made its way past the $1 million mark thanks to three of the seven registered.
“It was very competitive bidding from all parties involved and eventually sold to a local family looking to upsize,” Mr Carter said.
The eventual buyers were drawn to the property’s various segregated living areas, pool and the studio that was used as a “footy room”, decked out in Canberra Raiders and Brisbane Broncos merchandise.
“It suited a big family that loved to entertain and that ticked all the boxes for the new home-owners,” Mr Carter said.
Government records show the property last sold in 2017 for $720,000. The sellers decided to part with the home in a bid to downsize and move interstate.
Monash’s previous record was held by the properties at 5 Hawken Street and 9 Shirra Close, which each sold for $1.05 million earlier this year.
