'Nice to take it easy': The Forde home where you could be a kid again

Every now and then we get glimpses of our childhood or moments of nostalgia and at 8 Huddy Street, Forde, a certain room left that impression on owner Damien Obst and his family.

The four-bedroom home sits on more than 900 square metres of land and is nestled in lush and manicured gardens.

With 2.7-metre ceilings throughout, an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area and expansive windows and doors for seamless indoor and outdoor living, this is an impressive home.

But it’s the rumpus room that’ll leave a lasting impression. The room, which could function as a kids’ play area, has a wall of Marvel comic covers – an existing feature that Obst loved when he bought the property in 2015.

“It definitely caught my eye when we bought it and it just reminded me of being a kid which is why we decided to leave it there,” he said.

“When we moved in, my kids were eight and 10 so they’d grown up with that backdrop and it’s just a nice reminder not to take life too seriously.

“We already have enough stress in our lives so it’s nice to take it easy … this was a fun room, a playroom with our kids.”

Since buying the home, Obst has kept much of the interior the same but has renovated the backyard.

“We wanted a resort-style feel in the yard so we added the swimming pool and deck … it [is] very different from when we first bought it. We enjoy the outdoors, having a swim – it’s very Australian,” he said.

“And, during the lockdown, it came into its own. It was basically a holiday at home.”

While it’s a bittersweet farewell for the Obst family, they’re ready for the next owners to call the house their own.
