A home in O’Connor has broken the suburb record after selling for $4.05 million at auction on Saturday.
The five-bedroom home at 85 David Street drew in around 60 groups throughout the four-week campaign, largely consisting of family groups that were looking for something premium in the area, said selling agent Luke Revet of Blackshaw Manuka.
“I always thought the home had a very good chance of selling for a record price … people are willing to pay large amounts for this type of home at the moment,” he said.
The home sits on just over 1000 square metres of land, and has a number of features that attracted buyers, Revet added.
It has luxurious bathrooms, a media and theatre room, and Revet said the spacious four-car garage, solar heated pool and views from all rooms of the house were the “main features that drew people in”.
He said the suburb of O’Connor itself has become increasingly popular with buyers looking to purchase homes of this calibre.
“O’Connor is a great suburb, surrounded by good schools and in close proximity to the Australian National University and the city … it’s really growing in popularity,” he said.
“The fact that, recently, most people now can’t afford to purchase homes in the Inner South as prices rise, means that the Inner North is definitely growing.
“Today’s buyers were a young family that already lived in the area, whose school was located nearby … they were looking for something premium in this location, which is becoming very hard to find.”
The sellers had lived in the property for 12 years and were not expecting the home to sell for a benchmark price, Revet added.
“The sellers were really just hoping for a good result, something over the $3 million mark, so it exceeded their expectations,” he said.
“They have now decided to downsize and enjoy a different lifestyle living in a unit instead.
“But I had hoped it would sell for a record price, seeing as the last record in the suburb was around 12 months ago now.”
Allhomes understands the previous suburb record was held by the home at 144 Dryanra Street, which Revet also sold – for $3.2 million – in December last year.
