It’s a true rarity for a property like No.110 Duncan Street, Braidwood to come on the market.

Built in the 1850s, it was one of Braidwood’s first houses and was the home of William and Mary Isley, according to listing agent Kelly Allen of Belle Property Braidwood.

“It’s steeped in Braidwood’s history and has been part of the town for many years,” Allen says.

“You can imagine the time when women wore bonnets and men wore suits and top hats.”

Today, the three-bedroom house presents as a slice of idyllic country life on 828 square metres of land.

When you walk through the residence, the property’s charm shines through. It has quality fixtures, an original fireplace, classic Georgian-style windows and timber flooring that runs across the entirety of the house.

Allen says the vendors have lived in the property for almost 25 years and, under their ownership, the house has been lovingly maintained and renovated.

“One of the highlights of the home is the double sandstock bricks that were made by convicts in the area at the time,” she says.

“Previously, the brick was rendered over and when the vendors bought it, they brought it back to life.

“Today, that beautiful brick facade has been reflected inside with the fireplace and the master bedroom.”

The kitchen was also revamped and now features a waterfall island benchtop, hanging pot rack and four-burner gas stove. A sunroom was added next to the kitchen, capturing the afternoon sun.

For those with kids, playing hide and seek would be all the more fun thanks to a bedroom tucked away in the property’s rooftop, a loft-style room with timber ceilings and walls – a perfect hiding spot or quiet place to seek respite.

“It can work also as an attic, which is an uncommon feature in Australian homes,” Allen says.

“If the next owners have kids, I imagine they would be up there all the time.”

Outdoors, space is no problem. The generous backyard provides a place to entertain and bask in the crisp Braidwood air.

The property is only also a short stroll from Braidwood’s bustling main street.

“You can wake up in the morning and get your coffee from the cafe down the road, it’s quite a popular street and in a convenient location,” Allen says.

She says the property also includes DA approval to extend the house, should the next owners wish to do so.

“There’s plenty of room to open up the kitchen, or an additional living and dining area, or perhaps a fourth bedroom,” she says.
