Braddon is Canberra’s artisanal, eclectic heart. A suburb where food trucks sit adjacent to fine dining restaurants, and both are just as enticing as each other.
It’s where a perfectly frothed coffee or cold frothy can be enjoyed every few metres; where you can spend hours perusing boutique local retailers or indulging in a little rest and relaxation while enjoying a pamper at a premium hair salon or day spa.
But Braddon’s beginnings are much more humble. As Canberra’s first light industrial area, it was the centre of our automotive trades industry and filled with car dealerships from corner to corner.
And while the area has undergone significant gentrification, there are still remnants of its industrial past – one of which is set to emerge between now and the middle of next year.

“The architects at Judd Studio designed a modern interpretation of an inner-city terrace home,” says agent Chris Uren of Independent Inner North & City.
“The exterior design is inspired by the factory’s ‘sawtooth’ roofing that was commonplace throughout Braddon when it was in its industrial heyday.”

“This main bedroom suite offers walk-through wardrobes and a bedroom-sized en suite, most of which have a freestanding bath, separate shower, water closet and a double basin vanity unit.
“Every home also has direct access to its own courtyard and has the added benefit of having no one living above you – something that can only be achieved with terrace living,” he adds.
On the fringe of the city, the lifestyle options around Industry are broad and numerous. Walking to work is a real option, as is working from home, with study nooks and workspaces core to the home layouts.
This means there is added time to take the dog for a stroll through Haig Park or fit in an early morning workout at the numerous nearby gyms and yoga studios.
You can also send the kids to school via foot or bike, with Ainslie Primary School, Merici College, Lyneham and Campbell High and Daramalan College within easy reach.
Indulge in culture by attending a production at the Canberra Theatre Centre, or take some time out for yourself by visiting Canberra’s only bathhouse, Adytum, on Lonsdale Street.
Support local by shopping for the home at Pop Canberra, or venture further down into the city for premium retailers at the Canberra Centre. If you don’t feel like walking, you can access all of this for a scooter ride costing less than $2.
