They say you can never own a view, but there are plenty of places around Canberra where, if you’ve got one, you’ll be enjoying it for a long time.
Bret Loughton of Addval Developments says views are a priority for some buyers.
“It’s often high on the list for downsizers. They may be moving into a smaller space after years living on a big block,” he says. “A view delivers a greater sense of space and can visually extend the living area.”
Loughton says views are accessible from many locations around the territory.
“The elevated areas of Taylor offer some great vistas, as do the heights of Melba,” he says. “Southside, Bonython has great views toward the mountains.”
Around the city, Loughton cites Braddon, Campbell and NewActon as locations with big views taking in Mounts Ainslie and Majura and across the lake toward our many iconic institutions.
Boris Teodorowych of Boris Property says views tend to get more impressive toward the prestige end of the market.
“Buyers recognise the rarity of exclusive developments with extensive lake views, like the Sapphire within the Kingston Foreshore,” he says. “The views are second to none and the Sapphire has quickly become a sought-after address.”
But not all residents are swayed by the lake views.
“I had one older buyer who was enchanted by a view of cows in the wetlands as it reminded her of her upbringing. She felt like she had come full circle,” Teodorowych says.
Canberra is a city of iconic buildings, but, arguably, top of the bill is an uninterrupted view of the Parliament House flag structure. This could become your primary outlook from the lofty heights of this four-bedroom executive penthouse in Forrest.
You won’t find any shortage of space or luxury to enjoy this unique view, as it has more than 227 square metres of indoor and outdoor living areas.
European oak engineered-timber floors flow through from the entrance, complemented by high-spec fittings and fixtures throughout.
The showcase kitchen overlooks an open-plan living and dining area. The home chef will be right at home with Gaggenau appliances, including dual pyrolytic ovens and a warming drawer, and a Vintec dual-zone wine fridge. The technology is complemented by stone benchtops and Italian marble splashbacks.
The living area seamlessly extends to a covered balcony that provides a generous space for outdoor entertaining.
Three bedrooms have spacious walk-in-robes and luxe en suites. The opulent main suite ups the ante with an en suite featuring a floating bathtub, a study nook and a private balcony. All bathrooms have Villeroy & Boch tap and ceramic ware, floor-to-ceiling porcelain tiles and herringbone mosaic splashbacks.
There’s a double lock-up garage with extra storage, not to mention secure storage for 60 bottles of wine in a fully temperature-controlled wine cellar.
And if you do get tired of the view, you are absolutely close to everything.
