Seventeen floors above the bustling streets of NewActon perches an exquisite, newly renovated two-bedroom apartment with perhaps the most breathtaking views of Canberra ever seen.

The apartment at 1701/2 Marcus Clarke Street is something of an anomaly when it comes to a two-bedroom unit. Having just undergone an extensive renovation, it’s essentially a brand new apartment in an established inner-city complex. It offers a level of privacy that’s almost unheard of for apartment living.

“There are a lot of apartments within Canberra where you don’t have the privacy because you can be on a high floor, but you’ve got someone else looking into you,” says selling agent Aaron Lewis of Independent Property Group.

“You can’t strut around in your pyjamas and relax as much when you have prying eyes looking in. So, they bought it for the privacy and the view.”

And what a view. Originally a three-bedroom apartment, the sellers gutted the 114-square-metre property and opted to forgo the third bedroom in favour of a larger, open-plan living room that’s been designed to maximise visibility from virtually any viewpoint, save the bathrooms.

“It’s not just a lick of paint, some new flooring and new appliances like some renovations are,” says Lewis, “They gutted everything.”

Within a development largely occupied by live-in owners, the renovation was not without its challenges, but the sellers were scrupulous in their attention to detail and thoroughness.

“They spent a lot of time talking to architects, talking to a designer, then talking to a builder, having a really good team around them, so there was a lot of planning,” Lewis says.

“The idea was to think about every little detail, and they’ve done that really, really well.”

From the huge walk-in pantry to the luxurious kitchen and built-in dining table, the hidden study nook alongside the plethora of cupboards, and the main bedroom with its walk-in wardrobe and walk-in shower room, with gorgeous curves, complete with dual shower heads, the apartment offers virtually every comfort you could dream of.

If having the city and the lake at your feet wasn’t enough, the building also offers an extensive menu of amenities.

“The development itself has some of the most extravagant or numerous facilities of every development in Canberra,” says Lewis.

“There’s two tennis courts, a squash court, a pool and a gym. There’s also a couple of meeting rooms.”

Meanwhile, some of the city’s best wine bars, entertainment spots, restaurants and cultural institutions lie practically at your doorstep. But frankly, why would you bother when you could sit back, wine in hand, and soak up that beautiful view – strutting around in your pyjamas optional.
