Median house prices in Canberra are still eye-wateringly high, but have you ever wondered what the same price could get you overseas?

According to the most recent Domain House Price Report, the combined median house price for all capital cities was $1,065,447 in the June quarter.

Canberra’s median house price topped this value, coming in at $1,154,535 and maintaining its position as the second most expensive capital city in which to buy a home in Australia.

While Australians begin to accept a nationwide median house price of more than $1 million, options overseas may start to draw buyers’ attention.

Here are a selection of properties available from all across the globe that match the value of Canberra’s median house price. After more than two years of being stuck in the country, the time to look across the water is now.

Created with design in mind, this one-bedroom apartment is cosy, minimalist, and just outside Canberra’s median house price at about $A1,222,500.

It has bright white walls, exposed beams and wooden flooring, while classic Midtown Manhattan street views mean the apartment is close to the hustle and bustle of the city.

Utah, US

On the other side of the United States, this two-storey cottage-style home at 2752 South and 900 East, Salt Lake City, stands in complete contrast to New York’s property options.

The four-bedroom property has recently been renovated, but still retains its old-world charm.

This light-blue cottage of dreams is available for about $A1,193,500 – just over Canberra’s median house price – and is nothing like anything you will find in Australia’s capital.

This apartment comes in below Canberra’s median house price at about $A1,121,400.

Cher, France

While this property in Centre-Val de Loire, Cher, isn’t in Paris, you can tell it’s French just by looking at it.

Talk about a tree change. Wouldn’t this be nice? This property also costs less than Canberra’s median at about $A1,094,400.
