For many Canberrans, the holiday season isn’t complete without a pilgrimage to the big stretches of sand and water, while for others, it’s a quiet escape from inland life.
One trend that has skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic is how many homebuyers have opted to move to these luxury escapes full-time – swapping their inner-city setup for a home office in a tree change or sea change location.
But the trend of moving to regional NSW has cooled in the 12 months to September 2021, indicating that it might be a good time to purchase in the regions surrounding the ACT.
According to the latest Domain House Price Report, the median dwelling price for both houses and units in regional NSW increased by 16.2 per cent to $610,292 in the year to September. This was a quarterly increase of 4.2 per cent.
In Canberra, the median dwelling price was up 23.4 per cent over the year to $864,513 – an increase of 3.9 per cent in the September quarter.
And in Sydney, the median dwelling price increased by 23.9 per cent over the year to $1,211,714, up 4 per cent over the quarter.
With the Christmas and New Year holiday edging closer, and with the surrounding NSW region market cooling, there’s no better time to consider a permanent move to regional NSW than in the summer break.
So we’ve gathered six of our favourite properties on the market right now, either near the water or in the hinterlands, where one can switch off and soak in the Australian bush.
