What you can buy under Canberra's median house price in each ACT region

February 2, 2021
58 Henderson Road, Queanbeyan is on the market for $610,000-$630,000.

House hunters in the ACT are digging deeper into their pockets on the quest for their next home as house prices in the nation’s capital have reached record highs.

The latest Domain House Price Report for the December quarter 2020 showed Canberra’s median house price increased by 6.4 per cent over the quarter to a new peak of $855,530. This was a yearly growth of 9.1 per cent.

But the kind of property you can buy for that price tag varies significantly across Canberra’s regions.

Those who are looking for more land and a number of bedrooms would be better off purchasing a house in the Woden Valley, Tuggeranong or Queanbeyan regions.

Buyers in search of a home closer to the city centre, such as in the Inner North, would have to settle for a two-bedroom townhouse on the upper end of Canberra’s median house price.

In the sought-after Inner South, the choice is limited with only one house on the market priced below $855,530.

If you’re looking to get more bang for your buck, perhaps the family-friendly neighbourhoods of the Belconnen, Gungahlin and Weston Creek regions are your best bet.

We’ve compiled a list of houses for sale right now under Canberra’s median house price in each Canberra region.
