New York’s coastal getaway of the Hamptons is about as far from Canberra as you can possibly get, but the architectural appeal of its coastal-style homes is universal.
Jason Roses of VERV Property says the new two-storey residence is a case in point.
“People are drawn to it because it’s something different and its weatherboard exterior integrates nicely into its built neighbourhood,” he says.
“The Hamptons-style coastal influence brings about a sense of calm – it kind of creates a refuge from the outside world.”
Roses says the balance between sophistication and relaxed living has been achieved in the Torrens home.
“Another Hampton’s hallmark is attention to detail and everything has been selected with great care – from the herringbone-patterned flooring to light fittings,” he says.
Sonja McAuliffe of Archertec Interiors says existing homeowners should think about encouraging as much light into a home as possible for that Hamptons look.
“If you are making building modifications then bigger windows will help,” she says. “But you can get the feel by lightening everything – walls, frames, joinery and so on. Keep the paint palette really bright and light.”
McAuliffe says the right door and cupboard handles can also help inject Hamptons style and can be further complemented with soft furnishings.
“Bring in accents of soft greys or duck-egg blues into cushions, linens, curtains and so on,” she says.
“And bathrooms can be upgraded relatively simply, say with subway tiles and marble and chrome inclusions.”
This two-storey residence draws on the chilled out architectural style of New York’s Hamptons that’s big on light and has an eye for detail.
Number 90 Beasley Street is a brand-new, freestanding four-bedroom home that packs some 255 square metres of living space under its classic roofline.
It is crafted with all the hallmark features that characterise a Hamptons coastal getaway: weatherboards, stonework, colonial features and oak herringbone flooring throughout.
Just off the overwide entry hall is a generous formal lounge highlighted by a grand 4.2-metre ceiling and tall arched windows that draw in natural sunlight. Other features include custom cabinetry and an electric fireplace.
The heart of this stylish residence is the spacious family, dining and Shaker design influenced kitchen.
Features include white Attica stone benchtops, a deluxe tiled splashback, matte-black Phoenix hardware and quality Smeg appliances including an oven, gas cooktop and semi-integrated dishwasher.
The bedrooms are upstairs. The main retreat has a sense of grandeur with a spacious double-door entry. It has an oversized walk-in wardrobe, designer en suite and french doors that open onto a Juliet balcony with gorgeous views.
There are a further three bedrooms that share a well-appointed main bathroom.
Outside is a semi-enclosed front garden, a covered al fresco area and fully landscaped gardens with stone feature walls.
The home is close to popular local shops and a local primary school and is a short drive from the Woden Town Centre.
