Making up the south-west corner of Belconnen is Hawker, a suburb named after former politician and pastoralist Charles Hawker, with streets named after Northern Territory pastoral stations.

The hub of the suburb is the Hawker shops, which have everything locals need and is just under 10 kilometres from the centre of Canberra. It’s a popular suburb for families, with schooling options covering kids from preschool all the way through to year 12.

Eat & Drink

Rocksalt Hawker

Whether it’s for a leisurely brunch, a quick lunch, an easy takeaway on the run, or just coffee and cake, Rocksalt is a cosy spot to grab a bite to eat seven days a week.

And people drive from all over town to dine on the Mediterranean fare at family-run Olive at Hawker. Settle in for a rustic lunch or dinner of moussaka, stone-baked pizzas or fresh seafood, and always save room for the tiramisu or baklava.
