Are you still wistful about missing the chance to pick up late chef Julia Child’s famous French home, La Pitchoune, when it came onto the market at the end of 2015?
Never fear, you can now book a stay during the off-season, because the property is listed on Airbnb.
The kitchen, which had a replica at the Smithsonian Museum, is in much the same condition as Child left it although other parts of the house have been modernised.
Julia Child and her husband Paul built their holiday cottage, nicknamed “La Peetch”, on land that belonged to their close friends Simca Beck and Jean Fischbacher in the village of Plascassier.
It was built in 1962, shortly after the publication of their highly successful cook book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
The house had been in use as the Cooking With Friends school run by an American, Kathie Alex, before its recent sale.
Under its new owners cooking classes are again on offer from April to June and September to October, and according to the listing, from 2019 lucky guests will be treated to a private meal from a gourmet chef.
The couple returned to the property every year, and in 1992 it was returned to the Fischbacher family after Paul’s death.
At $938 per night, granted, it’s not that cheap – but the home can sleep up to six, and what price can you put on having a taste of culinary history?
