Faced with the challenge of the elements, a clever Swedish homeowner decided to think inside the greenhouse – by building one around their home.
Now on the market for 7 million krona ($1,081,000), the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house near Gothenburg has its own Mediterranean climate maintained inside its glass walls.
Despite the drop in temperatures that traditionally comes with a Scandinavian winter, it’s warm enough inside to grow fruit and vegetables, including apricots, tomatoes and kiwifruit.
The home features a stylish kitchen, separate living and dining areas and there is also what could be one of Sweden’s only indoor rooftop terraces. The terrace is on top of the main house structure, protected and framed by expansive glass and wooden beams, giving full access to all the light of the extended summer nights.
Built in 2015, the home is on 8.9 hectares and includes several other older buildings and a summer house – so there’s scope to try another greenhouse experiment.
Oh, and there’s a lake and forest, if all your carefully maintained interior nature isn’t enough. The home is listed through Eklund, Stockholm New York.
