A flashy suburban home had families fighting it out at auction in Brisbane’s north Saturday.
The large five-bedroom 53 June Street house in Mitchelton attracted hordes of house-hunting families and sold under the hammer for $898,000.
Eight parties registered to bid for the property, which was won by a Canberra family who had relocated.
Ray White Ashgrove agent Brittany Denham said more young families were eyeing up the “growth suburb”.
“All the interest I got was from families, mostly with two or more kids, who are looking to get into an up-and-coming suburb,” Ms Denham said.
“So when something this new and rare comes onto the market, it’s very popular.”
Bidding opened at $650,000 and was followed by 20 fast, competitive bids by multiple parties.
The sellers built the home two years ago, but a marriage collapse meant it was time to sell.
“They had built the home to live in, but it didn’t work out,” Ms Denham said. “Every fitting and fixture was made through their thought process and the house really shows that attention.
“I expected a good result today, and that’s what we got.”
Mitchelton’s median house price is $617,000. The biggest sale so far this year was $1.4 million.
In Hamilton a 27 Kent Street passed in under the hammer and went into immediate negotiations.
“We are closing in on a sale very soon,” Ray White Ascot agent Vanessa Harte said.
