Construction on one of Belconnen’s newest precincts, Cirrus, has officially commenced.

The waterfront development was officially marked at a sod-turning ceremony on Tuesday, conducted by ACT government minister for planning and land management Mick Gentleman. He said Cirrus will make a strong contribution to Belconnen’s town centre.

“Through the recent Belconnen Town Centre Master Plan process, the Belconnen community have made it clear that they have a strong desire for a more active, diverse and attractive town centre,” he said.

“The construction of Cirrus will provide more apartment options for people looking to live in the Belconnen Town Centre. It will also provide new commercial opportunities.”

Cirrus spans three towers standing at 13, 18 and 24 storeys high. There will be 226 residential units in the two taller towers, with an additional 100 dwellings in the 13-storey tower.

The development will feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom residences, along with restaurants and commercial spaces on the ground floor. It is listed by Colliers International ACT.

“We are delighted to see how far works have progressed on Cirrus and the ongoing evolution of Belconnen into a vibrant and bustling town centre,” said Colliers International ACT chief executive Paul Powderly.

“Cirrus is constructed on what we believe will prove to be one of the best locations in Belconnen for both live-in and investment owners.”

The 4800-square-metre site is located at 1657 Emu Bank – adjacent to Westfield Belconnen.

Plans for the site were first unveiled in May 2016 and the first apartments placed on the market in April 2017.

Conceived by Per Se Developments and Redgen Mathieson architects, all units will be north facing and capture views of Lake Ginninderra.

“Redgen Mathieson architects’ classic designs have created seamless spaces for residents, and we are looking forward to bringing this vision to life,” Per Se Developments managing director Anthony Tokich said.

“Belconnen is now actively competing with other rejuvenated areas of Canberra like Braddon and Kingston Foreshore,” added Gentleman.
