A converted water tower in California has been listed for sale.

If you are in the market for a home that’s more than a little unusual, this converted water tower could be just what you are after.

Perched high above California’s Sunset Beach and Seal Beach, the circa-1892 tower has been transformed into a four-bedroom home with stunning ocean and coastal views.

But at more than 30 metres above street level, it’s not for those who are afraid of heights.

The home has an asking price of almost $6.4 million.

The property was originally converted into a home in the 1980s and remodelled in 2016, The Orange County Register reportsIt’s now returned to the market for $US4.95 million ($6.395 million).

The property, almost 50 kilometres south of Los Angeles,  has more than 260 square metres of living space spread across four levels.

The property has four bedrooms, three of which are perched high up in the tower.

Three of the bedrooms — two mains with panoramic views and en suites and another room dedicated to California’s first and only pirate — are in the tower, with a fourth bedroom on the ground floor below.

The historic property has four bathrooms, a kitchen/laundry room and a top-floor rotunda encircled with large glass windows and topped with a stained glass copula, which serves as a living room and bar.

The home was remodelled in 2016.

There’s also a jacuzzi and seating area out on the second-floor deck, an elevator and two garages and a store room on the street level below. Not to mention a secret room behind a bookshelf, in case the home wasn’t quirky enough for you.

The property last sold for $1.5 million, and is now listed with co-owner Scott Ostlund, of Lee & Associates.

The bar and top floor rotunda could be the perfect spot for a sunset drink.
