The butlers’ pantry is so passé. Say hello to the “Costco door”.

This nifty kitchen inclusion is taking off the US and Aussie homeowners renovating or designing a dream build may want to take note.

A so-called Costco door connects the pantry or kitchen to the garage.

It is a small door which provides easy access from the car boot to the heart of the home. Some are at ground level and they can also be placed at bench height.

TikTok is awash with videos of homeowners and builders demonstrating how handy it is.

Mums and dads can shovel shopping from the car through the hatch or, alternatively, use to the door to dispose of boxes directly into the garage.

Home design platform @housing.info – which has 325,000-plus followers on TikTok – has a popular video demonstrating how a Costco door functions in a scullery (also known as a butlers’ pantry).

“The client can unload their groceries from the garage right in on the counter top and not have to pick them up twice, ” the presenter says. “So decide what height you want your Costco door at, and design a really cool, working kitchen.”

Other TikTokers show how quickly they get their shopping into the house using their Costco door (named for the colossal, membership-based, bulk-buy supermarkets which also have outlets in Australia).

An increasing number of listing in the US are detailing Costco doors as features and homeowners on social media have dubbed it a “game changer” for running a busy household.

Builders have gotten the memo and they have become almost standard in new homes in the estate belts of America.

They are so prevalent in Utah, American press have dubbed the Costco door a “Mormon home trend”. Agents on the real estate show Sold in Salt Lake City says it’s a must-have for their clients, which they think all American families will want.

An episode of the program was dedicated to the trend.

A contemporary Utah property on the market at the time of publication for $US1,099,999 ($AU$1,718,000) highlights a “convenient Costco door for easy grocery unloading”.

It is one of many listings in the area which promotes such an inclusion.

The show’s stars Matt Jones and Kenny Sperry told Realtor that Salt Lake City families are large, requiring big grocery shops, and the Costco door makes life much easier.
