Could this gravity-defying creation be Australia’s craziest pool?
The owners of a property in Buderim on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast took the plunge with a unique pool.
The hair-raising pool was built from a shipping container suspended in the air on tall metal stilts.
It’s been nominated for the title of Australia’s ‘Best Lap Pool’ in the 2024 Poolz Awards.
Local Queensland company Shipping Container Pools were the masterminds behind the design.
“Suspended six metres above ground, the pool offers a striking architectural feat that blends function and artistry,” the nomination statement says.
“Visitors can choose to ascend either by stairs or elevator, both leading to a spacious deck with uninterrupted 180-degree views of the stunning Pacific Ocean and Sunshine Coast.”
The owner of the property once travelled around the world in a similar China Shipping Co. container.
They chose to create a close replica of their original travel vessel, even using a faux patina finish to give it an authentically weathered look.

The 12-metre-long pool is ideal for swimming laps in the treetops, with sheer glass fences that maintain safety without impeding the impressive bushland views.
