If you’re on the hunt for a new property that’s a little out of the ordinary, Little River’s Silo Stay may tick all your boxes.

Located in ‘the gateway to the Banks Peninsula’, the property is approximately 45 minutes drive from Christchurch on the main route to Akaroa.

Comprised of nine silo units, plus the adjacent vacant commercial section of 881 metres-square, the former agricultural complex was converted into boutique accommodation in 2012.

The renovation was the brainchild of vendor Stuart Wright-Stow, an innovator with a passion for eco-friendly design.

A gravity-fed pellet-boiler of his own design provides hot water for bathroom and kitchen use, as well as for the heating the silo units. This sits within its own custom designed silo with glazed panels so you can watch the energy in the making.

The property also features LED lighting, a charging portal for Tesla vehicles, and an eco-friendly Biolytix waste water treatment system via a ‘BioPod.’

The pod harnesses the energy in the waste (such as sewage, toilet paper and food waste) to nourish tiger worms which then break it down.

Inside each of the 8.7 metre high, silo units are two storeys. Upstairs is situated a bedroom with balcony and romantic (or risque) glass shower, plus a glazed ceiling to allow a glimpse of the night sky while relaxing in bed.

Down the contemporary staircase, each unit has a compact kitchen and dining space, plus a separate toilet.

In it’s current incarnation, Silo Stay is particularly appealing to biking groups touring the area. The business received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor in 2017 and scored an average rating of 9.4 out of 10 from Booking.com in the same year.

The deadline for sale by private treaty is 4pm, Thursday 12 July 2018.
