A couple renovating their home were lost for words when they “struck gold” under their manky, old carpet.
Josh and Emily Brooks have been documenting the renovation of their London property for fans on social media.
They have made headlines in the UK for an expensive discovery, beneath the stained taupe carpet and underlay in the living room.
An Instagram video (titled “Moments before realising we struck gold”) shows Josh pulling up the carpet, which is met with gasps from Emily.
“Oh my gosh – Josh, Josh, Josh! It’s a diamond parquet,” she says.
He peels back to the corner to reveal the intricate wood pattern, in rich honey tones.
The Tiktok version of the same video been viewed more than 3 million times.
Interior experts told the couple the value of the diamond parquet they found is in the realm of £20,000 to £25,000 ($38,7000 to $AU48,400), the Express newspaper reported.
The “insane” discovery, as Josh calls it, has been met with jealous awe from design lovers.
“Tell me, how does it feel to be god’s favourite,” one follower commented on the July 18 video.
“What a find! Marvelous,” another said.
Parquet flooring is based on a geometric mosaic and is understood to have been developed and first laid at France’s Palace of Versaille in 1684.
It is coveted for its beauty, high quality and longevity and the modern interpretation, in Australia, is only ever found in luxury new builds.
