The west-coast city of Perth is known as Australia’s sunniest city, sprinkled with the natural beauty of surrounding hills to the east and long stretches of pristine beaches to the west.

Among its slew of scenic suburbs, Dalkeith is regarded as the crown jewel of the city’s “golden triangle”.

Bounded on three sides by the Swan River, Dalkeith is home to many of Perth’s most notable and wealthy residents, ranging from mining tycoons to A-list celebrities – those who happily reside in some of the city’s most impressive mansions, lapping up the luxury that befits its prestigious postcode.

It’s always sunny in Dalkeith

Vivien Yap, of Ray White Dalkeith, describes it as an affluent suburb that enjoys the best of both worlds, with the beach only a five-minute drive away and the freeway easily accessible for painless commutes to greater Perth.

“While it’s an older suburb, I’m seeing more young families with children moving in because of its proximity to some of Perth’s best schools,” Yap says.

“[It is] also great value for money, with large blocks and riverfront mansions that are especially popular with retirees, foreign investors and multigenerational families.”

Dalkeith’s small size lends it a village-like appeal, enriched by quiet, verdant streets and an abundance of parks, making it one of Perth’s greenest suburbs.

“It’s very much a peaceful, leafy suburb,” Yap says. “We have about eight parks … creating that invaluable privacy element, akin to living in your own little sanctuary.”

A little slice of Paris

The boutique shops and delightful eateries, like Cafe Des Delices, that are dotted along Waratah Avenue add charm to the suburb.

“This is such a special place for me because it’s where I started my first business, and the cafe and I are still here eight years later,” says owner Philippe Cheung.

“It’s wonderful to work in this environment, where customers are loyal and greet you by name.”

Cheung’s cafe serves authentic French-style pastries, fresh cakes, and baguettes prepared daily.

“It’s great to be away from the stress of the city, and when I can, I love to visit the nearby Bishop Road Reserve, where I could spend hours admiring the amazing view over the river,” he says.

“In fact, there are many scenic walks you can take around Dalkeith; just remember to bring some coffee and sweets!”
