Dave Sharma MP trades up from $2.8 million Paddington terrace to nearby $4 million digs

The Paddington terrace of Liberal MP Dave Sharma goes to auction on March 6.

Federal Liberal MP Dave Sharma is clearly not planning to leave his Wentworth electorate anytime soon, given he has up-graded to what he expects to be his family’s forever home near Centennial Park for more than $4 million.

Within days of exchanging on his new five-bedroom house with a swimming pool, garage and separate teenager’s retreat, the former ambassador to Israel had listed his nearby Paddington terrace on Friday for $2.8 million.

“It’s been lovely. It’s a beautiful house, but I have three daughters, and it’s just getting too tight where we are now that the two eldest are teenagers. We just needed a bit more space,” Mr Sharma said.

Having purchased through BresicWhitney’s Maclay Longhurst, Mr Sharma has handed him the keys to sell his four-bedroom home with the first open inspection this weekend.

Sharma and his wife Rachel Lord moved to the eastern suburbs from the Upper North Shore in 2018 when he was contesting the local seat in a by-election following former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull’s decision to quit politics.

Soon after Independent Dr Kerryn Phelps won the by-election, Mr Sharma bought his current Paddington terrace for $2.6 million a week before it was scheduled to go to auction. He reclaimed Wentworth for the Liberal Party in the federal election a year later.

Mr Sharma said the family of five had outgrown their Paddington terrace.

The four-bedroom house with separate lounge, dining and sitting rooms – complete with recently installed gas fireplace – goes to auction on March 6.

“I think this is our last move,” he said. “In 10 years’ time, the family will be getting smaller again, and I can’t imagine we’ll want to move before then.”

The purchase also makes Mr Sharma a near neighbour to fellow Liberal, Senator Andrew Bragg, who purchased his three-storey Paddington terrace in 2019 for $4.675 million.
