Defence Housing Australia releases tender for 25 homes at Throsby in Gungahlin

Defence Housing Australia has released a tender for the design and construction of 25 houses in the Gungahlin suburb of Throsby.

The organisation already manages more than 800 homes in the Gungahlin area, including more than 200 in Harrison, which is adjacent to Throsby.

Defence Housing Australia managing director Jan Mason said the suburb has easy and convenient transport access to Defence bases.

“The suburb of Throsby also has an expansive network of walking and cycling paths, playgrounds and open spaces, providing a safe environment to raise a family,” Ms Mason said.

“All homes will be occupied by Australian Defence Force families and would most likely be occupied by a mix of army, navy and air force families.”

Ms Mason said the homes would be high-quality three and four-bedroom houses.

She said the organisation’s ageing housing stock, usually over 15 years old, is progressively replaced each year in the Canberra region.

New developments are underway in the Gungahlin suburb of Moncrieff and Googong, near Queanbeyan.

“Also, housing stock replenishment occurs through the acquisition and direct leasing of properties within the Canberra region,” Ms Mason said.

Defence Housing Australia released a tender request for 55 homes in Googong in March.

Ms Mason said the organisation’s tenders attract a range of local builders.

The Throsby tender request was released via AusTender and will close on Wednesday.
