A Denman Prospect display home took out the top gong at the Master Builders ACT Building Excellence Awards on Friday night.

The Onyx Display Home was built by Better Building Services.

A statement taken from the project’s brief said: “Our display home in Denman is a spectacular modern home designed for the Australian family today and into the future.

“This sophisticated structure pushed the boundaries for both the construction and design teams.”

The award was the 100th MBA win for Better Building Services managing director Ivan Juric, who won an additional four awards on the night.

“This is the first time that a Canberran builder has won 100 awards, nine of those being national MBA awards,” said Master Builders ACT CEO Michael Hopkins.

“Ivan has been a proud Master Builder ACT member for 20 years and has always strived to deliver excellent service and encourage collaborative relationships to promote best practice in the industry.”

Held at the Convention Centre, the annual awards night recognises excellence in the local building and construction community.

“Our awards night is the night of all nights for our industry, and for the many who support it,” said Mr Hopkins.

“Each year we celebrate the best local builders, trades and design teams through our Building Excellence Awards program. It is an opportunity to recognise the talent and expertise in the building industry.”

Other notable winners on the night included Brother Projects, which was awarded the Custom Built Homes Award more than 350 square metres, for a project in Yarralumla.

The project brief for the home stated “industrial-inspired architectural features throughout to deliver a ‘wow’ factor”.

A Googong home was awarded Project Home less than $300,000. Built by Achieve Homes it was described as “a perfect start for first-home buyers”.

Mr Hopkins said the median age of the finalists and winners has dropped “considerably” in this year’s awards.

“After many years of long-standing members consistently upholding our industry standards, a new generation is budding,” he said.

“We look forward to seeing where this new generation takes us as we move into the future.”
