A development application has been lodged for 134 apartments on the former site of the Win Television studios in Canberra.

The site on the corner of Wentworth Avenue and Burke Crescent also includes the neighbouring Maggie Shepherd building, which will also be demolished to make way for the apartments.

Estimates suggest the build is set to cost $38 million and the application proposes a “five to seven-storey building” with two levels of basement car parking.

There will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units in the development.

The 4582-square-metre site will include a “large rear garden” for deep-rooted planting and there will be “generous lobbies” off Burke Crescent and Wentworth Avenue that will provide access to the garden.

Boss Constructions will develop the site. The company purchased the Win TV site in 2015 for $2.44 million and already owned the Maggie Shepherd building. They currently operate out of the site.

Local firm Stewart Architecture will design the apartments, having been engaged with the site since early 2019.

In 2016, a development application was lodged for the site permitting 127 dwellings up to seven storeys.

In the lead-up to the application, consultations with neighbours and local resident groups were held.

While there was a development boom in the suburb over much of the past decades, in recent years development in Kingston has slowed but there are still projects on the horizon.

High-profile developments currently under construction include Keggins Group’s Sapphire, Atria and the Kingsborough Precinct.

More recently, the ACT government signed a tender with Geocon to deliver the Kingston Arts Precinct. The $750 million development is mixed-use with the number of apartments yet to be determined.

Submissions for the development application on the former Win TV site will close on September 16.
