Defence Housing Australia is delving further into the world of developing apartments after its first successful foray in Sydney’s Lindfield, which has almost sold out.
DHA’s Crimson Hill development has just nine apartments still available of the 310 originally put to market.
Purchasers have included first home buyers, young families and downsizers, says Colliers International national director of project marketing, Curtis Field.
Attractions included being next to the Lane Cove National Park and close to schools, childcare, hospitals, cafes and shops, Field says.
Defence Housing Australia, which has traditionally built townhouses and houses, now has other apartments under construction, including a 166-unit development in Perth’s Fremantle, known as Liv, Danish for “life”. It also has proposed developments in Sydney’s inner south, in Waterloo and Alexandria.
The masterplanned Crimson Hill project is spread over five precincts high up on a plateau hugged by the Lane Cove National Park.
Three of the zones – Hamilton Corner, Dunstan Grove, Tubbs View – have already been completed. The Charles Bean Soccer field and Blair Wark Community Centre have also been built.
The Shout Ridge precinct, which sold out off the plan, is on track to be finished this year.
The architects on the overall Crimson Hill project were Bates Smart and Architectus.
All of the apartments still for sale are three-bedroom configurations in the Dunstan Grove offering, which has 37 apartments in all.
The remaining three-bedders each have two car parking spaces and balconies that range from 14 to 36 square metres.
DHA acting managing director Jan Mason says the DHA development offered Lindfield residents “a new way of living”.
“Crimson Hill was our first foray into the apartment market,” says Mason. “We are glad buyers have wanted to be a part of this unique project.”

With the Royal National Park and its stunning sandstone formations close by, it’s only natural that architects Candalepas Associates have chosen to incorporate sandstone into the exterior of the new Rosa Bullata development at Sutherland.
The 49-apartment development combines the convenience of being close to a commuter hub, with regular trains to the city, as well as being handy to the city’s southern beaches and bushland. The nod to the nearby national park can be found in the building’s sandstone retaining walls.
Developed by Cuzeno with architecture, the six-storey building will have 49 apartments, of which 10 are still available. The building will have two lifts, video intercom and underground parking.
The majority of apartments face north, helping to enhance light, winter warmth and cooling summer breezes.
The living areas have partitions and timber screen blades to help provide privacy while maintaining views. Many of the balconies are also screened by timber blades.

The Crescent at Woollahra is promising space and luxury in the heart of the east.
And the size of the apartments doesn’t disappoint. The Winten Property Group development offers two breathtakingly large penthouses with four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and nearly 500 square metres of internal and external space.
Three of the 12 upmarket residences – two three-bedroom ground floor apartments and one of the two four-bedroom penthouses – have already sold.
The Crescent comprises buildings of three and four levels each, with gardens by renowned landscape architect Paul Bangay and architecture and interiors by AKArchitects and Susan Rothwell.
The Crescent will be a stroll to buses on New South Head Road and the shops of Double Bay.
