Did Leah and Ash from The Block sell their house? No Christmas miracle as house 2 remains up for sale and price discounted

December 19, 2023

Just a week out from Christmas and it appears unlikely The Block contestants Leah and Ash will have any prize money from Channel Nine under their tree.

The couple were the only contestants to walk away empty-handed after The Block‘s record-breaking finale last month.

Despite reports of multiple offers on the property in the days following the auction, their house at 16 Charming Street house remains unsold.

And an updated statement of information for the property shows the asking price has been dropped from $3.2 million to $3.125 million.

Agent Noel Susay of Buxton Hampton East told Domain they had reverted to a traditional selling campaign for the property, with a mix of families and investors coming through the home in the past couple of weeks.

“We’ve just commenced doing open for inspections over the last two weeks, swung it into, I guess, a normalised campaign,” he said.

“We’ve had two Saturdays and two mid-week opens. We haven’t been inundated with people – I thought once we opened it up we’d get a lot of fans and so forth … but we’ve had genuine people coming to have a look which has been good.

“Obviously just the timing and so forth it’s been a bit slower this time of the year, but it’s just converted to a traditional private sale campaign.

On an auction night filled with drama, Leah and Ash elected to pass their property in rather than sell at a price at, or close to, their $2.97m reserve, in the hopes of netting a higher-value sale post auction.

The property attracted just one bid of $2.9 million from buyers agent Frank Valentic.

As the property market winds down over the Christmas and New Year period, Leah and Ash may have to wait a while longer to secure a result for their property.

Their Christmas wish could well be that a sale doesn’t take them as long as last year’s Block contestants Dylan and Jenny, whose Gisborne property remained unsold for nearly six months before eventually selling for $3.9 million, $180,000 below its original reserve.

Leah and Ash aren’t the only couple where the charm has worn off their property.

Elsewhere on the street – which saw a string of properties come on the market timed to capitalise on The Block finale –  49 Charming Street remains on the market.

Selling agent Nick Sinclair of Hodges Real Estate Sandringham said the property had plans approved for the development of five townhouses on the block.

“It’s been a little bit slower just due to it being more of a development site,” he said.

“We have had some offers, they just haven’t been in the range that we’re after.”

Elsewhere on the street vendors have managed to charm the market, with three other properties – at 3/30B, 31, and 39 Charming Street, all selling either at auction or by private sale.
