An “elegantly designed” home has taken out the top award at the HIA’s ACT and Southern NSW Housing Awards on Saturday night.
Building company Quality Country Homes was awarded ACT and Southern NSW home of the year for a build in Jeir, 30 kilometres north of Civic.
“The judges commented on the scale and grand proportions of this elegantly designed home, which becomes apparent as soon as you step through the front door,” said HIA ACT and Southern NSW executive director Greg Weller.
“Internal features include exposed timber trusses and recycled timber for internal posts and beams which were sourced from a demolished Victoria wharf.
“The tall vaulted ceilings and timber-lined walls create a feeling of yesteryear. The home features two stone fireplaces, spotted gum timber floors, custom-built New Guinea rosewood double-glazed windows with deep reveals and three panel feature doors.”
The Jeir home was also named custom-built home of the year.
Other winners included Preferred Builders (renovation/addition project of the year), Capital Veneering & Brother Projects (kitchen of the year) and Archertec Interiors (bathroom of the year).
Display home of the year was awarded to Better Building for their Denman Prospect display home, which is currently on the market.
“The HIA Housing Awards are the one night of the year where accolades are dedicated exclusively to the residential building industry from the region,” Mr Weller said.
Thomas O’Rafferty, of Vision Building Group, was named apprentice of the year.
Winners will compete at the Australian Housing Awards in Perth in 2019.
