Hollywood royalty and apparent house-flippers Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have unloaded a Beverly Hills home for $US15.5 million ($23 million), $US500,000 ($739,000) more than they paid for it less than a year ago.

The comedian and talk show host and her wife had done some minor cosmetic work on the five-bedroom mansion, listing agent Kurt Rapport of Westside Estate Agents told US property website Mansion Global.

But it was not enough to flip the property for more than the DeGeneres-de Rossis paid for it last year, with the pair having to back down from their $US17.95 million ($26.6 million) asking price from June.

When listed, DeGeneres’ business manager Harley Neuman told Mansion Global his client had put “quite a bit in improvements since the acquisition”, and that she and de Rossi had intended to live in the home for longer.

The 473-square-metre home was designed by Hollywood architect John Woolf, and overlooks the city and the sea.

The star couple are well known for making moves in the real estate world, with several multimillion-dollar transactions under their belts in the past few years.

In January, they splashed $US27 million on a Balinese-styled mansion in Montecito, near California’s Santa Barbara. It was also reported the couple bought a $US45 million Beverly Hills home from Maroon 5 frontman and The Voice judge Adam Levine earlier this year.

DeGeneres and de Rossi offloaded another Montecito mansion to Netflix executive Ted Sarandos for $US34 million in 2018, making $US7.5 million on the sale in five years.

Earlier that year, they sold yet another Montceito property to Tinder founder Sean Rad, for $US11 million. It’s reported they made $US3.805 million on the sale after owning the ranch for eight months.

More recently, the real estate enthusiasts sold a seaside home in Carpinteria, also near Santa Barbara, for $US27 million.
