First-home and lower-budget buyers have plenty of choice in property in Brisbane, where half a million dollars can go a long way.
Because of the apartment boom, there’s a variety of apartments that sell for less than they would have been worth in a less crowded market and two bedrooms for less than $500,000 is easily attainable.
If you look to the outer suburbs, there’s plenty of options for larger house and land properties that come in well under budget. You’d be surprised.

If you measure it purely on a square metreage, this Woolloongabba apartment blows a lot of new developments out of the water. The balcony alone is 68 square metres, which is larger than some single-bedroom apartments for sale in excess of $350,000.
“You’ve got the new ones across the road, they’ve got 100 square metres, they’ve got hardly any balconies and they’re selling from $490,000 up to $600,000,” selling agent Rachel Fechner said.
She said the home also had plenty of storage and character.

Rochedale South is on the fringes of Brisbane, but it’s still a short drive to the heart of the city. “Probably 15 to 20 minutes by car,” selling agent John Jessop said.
“It’s great and the best thing is it’s right there if you need to go to the city or down the gateway.”
Mr Jessop said the recently renovated three-bedroom house had been popular with buyers so far because they saw value in the property.
He said Rochedale was a popular, yet affordable suburb to buy into in Brisbane’s south that represented a solid investment. “In Rochedale sellers don’t have to make any compromise, you make top dollar.”

The Austin building is touted as one of Brisbane’s finest apartment addresses and that’s hard to argue given just how good the apartment’s killer feature (the view) is.
Unit 1210 doesn’t look towards the CBD but the shared rooftop pool and living area does, which would make it perfect for viewing Riverfire or spending a night overlooking the monolithic cultural centre or city lights.
For about $450,000, the one-bedroom represents a decent price for what’s allegedly one of the best apartment blocks in South Brisbane.

Waterford is out on the other side of Logan, but is still technically a part of Brisbane, depending on who you ask. Naturally, the further from the CBD you go the more value you get for your money. In Logan, a five-bedroom house comes in well under half a million dollars which is brilliant value, selling agent Trina Wilson said.
“In the Beenleigh and surrounds we have quite a few properties under that 500,000 and under, some executive-style properties.”
At face value five bedrooms for half a million dollars is cheap, but Ms Wilson said there was hidden value in the home too.
“It’s low maintenance living, large rooms and it’s an ex-display home so it’s got lots of extras,” she said.

Hawthorne is considered one of Brisbane’s premier suburbs, within walking distance to some of the busiest and most popular dining and entertainment precincts in the city.
Thanks to falling prices for apartments, there are a few bargains to be had here too, and this apartment is no exception. Less that $500,000 for a two-bedroom apartment in a great location with and extra study/rumpus room is a steal. The kitchen is good-sized, too.
