It’s usually easy to tell if a house is considered a “renovator” by the listing agents. The first of suspiciously few pictures on the listing will be an aerial shot with the block’s boundaries outlined, or a shot of Brisbane’s skyline. Oh, and it’s more than likely it’ll go to auction.
Recently, renovators (and knockdown jobs) have proved popular with Brisbane buyers, with aspirational buyers using the properties an opportunity to buy into to the inner-ring suburbs.
These are five of some of the best renovation/knock down opportunities for sale now, all in strong performing or up-and-coming suburbs.

An enclosed glass veranda already captures city views at 7 Spica Street, but so much more could be done with the post-war home.
Spica Street is within walking distance of Buena Vista Avenue, one of Coorparoo’s best addresses. Selling agent Bryce O’Sullivan said the block had attracted attention, but not so much the house.
“Most of the interest we’ve had is for the land,” he said. “You can remove the house, you’re pretty much paying for the location. It’s such a beautiful pocket of Coorparoo.”
Mr O’Sullivan said the shape of the 809-square-metre block had great potential for a prestige home.
“The length of the block is being commented on because you can do more with the views with length rather than frontage.”

Bardon is just outside Brisbane’s inner ring, but it borders some of the most prestigious suburbs, and it’s no slouch itself. Seriously stunning homes dot the landscape in Bardon, and 68 Lewin Street has the potential to join them.
The home is in mostly original condition, and is at the very least in need of a touch up but failing that the home can be demolished.

Agent: Lynn McGavin
3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 car park
When you look at 24 Newington Street, Tarragindi, it’s immediately obvious the home needs some love.
A fresh coat of paint on the picket fence and the facade wouldn’t go astray. This home also has the option of demolition, but selling agent Lynn McGavin said it would be a shame to see the 1950s home go.
“It’s got really good bones of a really solid house, it was built in 1956,” she said. “It’s great because it hasn’t been butchered, or doctored. You’ve very much got the bones of a blank canvas.”

Agent: Mandeep Singh
3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom
This three-bedroom home is surprisingly small, with just 63 square metres of internal space. But this is another property where you’re buying the land more than the home itself – 63 Victoria Street is an elevated block in Kelvin Grove, close to the University, shops, and transport options.
And of course there are the city views that come with being close to the city and so high up. Don’t expect this renovator to go for a song.
Price: Open for tender
Agent: Gunther Behrendt and Tanya Douglas

Carina Heights is another great suburb on the come-up. Sandwiched between Camp Hill and Carindale, Carina and Carina Heights are experiencing great spillover growth from the two popular suburbs.
The aerial shots of this property show that it’s surrounded by units and townhouses, so it’s possible that this home will get the same treatment. However, the listing agents have said it would be possible to build a dream home on the 888 square metre block.
