Australia’s coastal hot spots are spectacular, but they can get awfully busy, particularly at this time of year when hordes of families and school leavers flock to the beach in search of respite from the summer heat.
Thankfully, many hinterland regions allow you to enjoy the best of coast and country – peaceful living, maybe even on a slice of acreage, all while still being a relatively short drive to the beach.
Whether prominent areas such as Byron Bay, the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast or lesser-known pockets across Victoria and NSW, Australians are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a hinterland haven of their own.
We’ve rounded up some of the best on the market right now.
