If you need a holiday home on a budget, sometimes the Sunshine Coast can be a better bet for buyers. If you want to buy on the Gold Coast, comparable properties could set you back a few hundred thousand dollars more than on the Sunny Coast.
For this list, properties $400,000 and under were considered and as it turns out, you get plenty of bang for your buck on South East Queensland’s northern beaches.

Waterfront views don’t have to be of the ocean, take this unit in Birtinya for example. Selling agent Tanya Stewart the lake was a great spot. “It’s quite nice, you can watch the rowers on the weekend,” she said.
The one-bedroom unit was a good size, and would be just as good for an owner-occupier as an investor.
“I think it is great value. It’s an 82-square-metre unit, a great size,” Ms Stewart said. “A lot of the other one-bedroom units in that location are a lot smaller.
“If you’re a single person or a couple it’d be perfect to live in. It’s not an open studio style.”

In the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, this house is a great example of the affordability the coast has to offer. Four beds, and only 15 minutes from the beach is a great buy for a family home or investment property.
It also has the capacity for dual living, with an almost self-contained downstairs suite so you could really have both if you wanted.

Another home in Woombye, this time it’s a charming brick cottage in a central location. Selling agent Kirk Patrick said the great spot was the house’s killer feature.
“Location wise it’s excellent, you can walk to the shops and the pub and train,” he said.
The relative affordability when compared to Brisbane makes the home a good holiday spot for city dwellers, Mr Patrick said.
“It would work for a Brisbane based person if they wanted a weekender,” he said. Like the other Woombye home, this one’s just a quarter of an hour to the beach.

Selling agent Steven Allen said unit of this size with two bedrooms and bathrooms didn’t last long on the market.
“They do come up and they are available but they get snatched up quickly when they do,” he said.
